Why 9 types of sanitizing standards?

Normal 'delete' command or deleting data from the recycle - bin is not a safe method for data removal.

To securely erase we need to follow certain patterns or standards for disk sanitization, the patterns used effectively remove magnetic remnants from the hard drive.

Why does it take so long to erase a drive? I know some software which erase fast!

Overwriting takes a while if we have to go by the standards, especially on slower drives. If erasing with the other program is faster, it either uses fewer overwriting passes or data is never actually written to the disk. So, faster erasing means poor security - instant erasing of even large files usually means no security at all.

However, if you find disk sanitizer to be too slow, you always can select faster overwriting methods with compromising the security.

I have been used Disk Doctors Data Sanitizer to overwrite all sensitive data from my drive. Is it really gone now?

This is for sure that if a drive has been erased using Data Sanitizer, the data cannot be recovered with any data recovery software utility, however it depends on how much money and effort people trying to restore your data are willing to use. Even if the hard drive disk platters are examined, recovering data will be extremely difficult, if not impossible, and this technology to bypass the electronics of the hard disk is available with law enforcement agencies only.
